Private credit, once a marginal asset class confined to a handful of specialty lenders, has grown into a force that traditional banks can no longer ignore. Assets under management in the sector have crossed two trillion dollars globally.

The growth has been particularly pronounced in the middle market, where private lenders have steadily displaced syndicated bank loans as the financing of choice for sponsor-backed transactions.
